World Racing Championships
This Championship was launched in March 1999 to provide thoroughbred racing with a World Championship similar to other sports and to link some of the great races for three year olds and up around the world together. The first event was the Dubai World Cup at Nad Al Sheba in 1999. In that year only 9 races formed the World Series of Horse Racing.
In 2000, two additional events were added, The Arlington Million and the Grosser Preis von Baden. In 2001, “The Arc” was added taking the Championship to 12 races covering 10 countries. In 2002, the Championship was extended to 14 races with the addition of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup in Hong Kong and the Singapore Airlines International Cup in Singapore.
During 2003, the Dubai World Cup left the Series to continue as a stand alone event and the Singapore Airlines International Cup did not take place due to the SARS outbreak resulting in 12 races that year.
In 2004 it was back to 13 events and a new name, The World Series of Racing.
